Answers

So, the question now is - Have I answered my first initial questions at the very end of my post??

Let's recap in what my first post was...

What and How

  1. What is going to be made?
  2. What would I like to make?
  3. What will it be made from?
  4. How is it going to be made?
  5. How will its outcome look?
  6. How can I make this visible?

Ok so...

  1. A sculpture is going to be made.
  2. A wooden sculpture that is large in scale.
  3. Wood from a soft tree trunk or thick tree branch.
  4. It is going to be carved and whittled. However I have not went into specifics here.
  5. It will look colourful, narrow, towerring and viewed in a Gallery space.
  6. This I do not know yet, there is still a lot o look into.

Extremely Rough Sketches continued...

These extremely rough sketches are supposed to show the scale and height of structure compared to human height in space.

Some Ideas for Final Piece

Here are some extremely rough sketches of what I imagine an art work in which I am talking about would be like inside a space.

tree-like and lighting

Lights continued...

These are some examples of tree lights in various places one of these images situated in Glasgows Royal Exchange Square of the G.O.M.A. This could possibly be a cheaper way of lighting up a group of trees.

Lighting and Colour

Here are some examples of colourfull lighting. I wonder what kind of lighting this is? I wonder what it is called? Soon I will find out and see if this is the kind of lighting I can get or use for my art piece.

Modern Day Totem Poles

Pole-like

The reason for looking at totem poles is because the work I aim to propose is a tall, towerring, wooden sculpture like a totem pole. The only difference is it will be Gallery Spaced and have lighting and hand invented reflection.

Historic trees in sculpture with and with out colour

Totem Poles date as far back as the 1800s. Totem Poles are monumental wooden sculptures and come from the cultures in the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. It is a cultural tradition that has been said to be lost in this modern day, however this is not true - they are still used all over the world. They are not entirely for worship and there are also some poles that are used to ridicule those groups that have unpaid debt and they are called "Shame Poles" .

Different Colours

Colour is used in almost everything. In fact we see colour everywhere. We have natural colours that were created when earth began like the color of trees and leaves, Flowers, sand, dirt... etc. We have different colours of paints, pencil, pens, crayons. We see colour everyday. We have it in our clothes, in our homes, the place we work and shop...etc. So it is a major factor for it to be in art, it's natural and has been used for centuries. The question is - What colours should I use?

Colour

Colour is important. It attracts people and gets their attension. What I need to do is figure out what colours I would like to use. Colours that relate to the thought process I have been looking at with Fairy tales and Fantasy and mythical creatures. I need to also find the way in which I am going to colour my work.

Drawings

Demonstrations of width and sketches of what I feel relate to structure and sketches that help me ask questions as to how to progress and carry on the process.

Something tall, Large scale, colourful and similar to what I am aiming for.

Similar to my aims for my proposal. However I want it in a Gallery Space, I want it to be narrow and branch free. Yes I do want it to be colourful but brighter. I want to use lighting to help with this colour and somehow create shaddow or reflection.

Some interesting types of trees

Tree Biology

The inside of a tree is important, it has like us a skeletal structure. I want to carve or whittle if possible just past the under layer of the bark.

Other kinds of colourful trees

Tree sweater cosy and plastic wrapped trees in Paris. These are ways to colour trees.

Colourful trees

Jeong-Hwa Choi, a female artist who has sculptural large scale works from China to France to the Netherlands and many more places in the world. One piece made from the same metal as her "flowers trees" is similar to that of "Jeff Koons flower puppy" except Choi's is a large scale horse.

My works: 3

This work was slightly bigger and needed a little more than just hand held chiseling tools, so I used fire. It is not the first time I have used fire to burn through materials. Wood however, was hardly affected by the flames. So in due time I did eventuly finish the piece purely by carving with my hand held tools. It was an acomplishment for me but I feel progress is in store. I not only want to go large scale, I want to reduct more in my process.

My works: 2

This was the first wooden piece I had done. Here I learned the ways of carving in 3 dimensions and still included concept. From here I went to a larger scale and tried something a bit more ambitious. My ambition is to go bigger with the current project.

My works : 1

This was a piece I had done that involved a heavy car tire, a ladder, a couple of poches full of pigment (powder paint) and large paper. The aim was to roll the tire down the ladder and burst the pouches of pigment over the paper on the wall and ground. I succeeded in this and managed to produce some fantastic colour. Colour is going to be a factor in my current proposal.

Other Artists

Wooden Tree Creatures

Nobody - Knows: No one knows the name of this artist. I have searched almost every website that these pictures are on, and all you can get is, amazing wooden sculpture or amazing photo's. Does anyone know who is responsible for these "Amazing Wooden Sculptures" ??
They have such a mythical feel to them as if these sculptures are hidden creatures in another world. The detail is absolutely extraordinary. I hope that I am able to one day achieve such ambitious work.
